In a room that looks much like her own but where everything is exactly reversed, Alice sees chessmen walking around. And as she steps out of the Looking-Glass House into the garden of live flowers, she is taken to the hill by the Red Queen. “I declare it‘s marked out just like a large chess-board!” Alice said at last. “There ought to be some men moving about somewhere—and so there are! . . . Oh, what fun it is! How I wish I was one of them!
